My Simple Stories

Yes, I know - I've been a HORRIBLE blogger.

I just wanted to update everyone on something BIG coming to MemoryWorks. The owner Amber has been working really hard for awhile to develop an exclusive line to MemoryWorks (yes, exclusive). These products will only be able to be purchased through a MemoryWorks consultant (like me).

I have seen first hand how awesome this new line is. It is a paper line and will help make scrapbooking easier, more efficient, simple, enjoyable and of course preserve your memories!! I know Amber has put her heart & soul in this product. She is a true inspiration and I can't wait to get my hands on it!!

I have seen online versions of this new product line. You can check out some sneak peeks at the My Simple Stories blog! You even have a chance to WIN!! All you need to do is place one of the awesome blinkies on your blog, email, facebook page, etc.

This new product will be released to purchase in mid / end January.

Check out this great video the MemoryWorks home office put together: http://vimeo.com/7987560

If you have any questions on this new product - please email me at lacey.memoryworks@gmail.com! If you want to book a party, purchase products or want me to teach a class you can also contact me at that email address.

JabberBox Marketing

I'm starting a new adventure in my life. In the past few years I have been doing various marketing things for friends & family. It all started in college (sort of) when I put together a few flyers / postcards for Theatre Scholarships. Well. I have come a LONG way since then.

When I moved back to Fargo I was given the opportunity to be Marketing director for the Gooseberry Park Players. I created ads, put out press releases, added the production dates to local calendars, contacted local groups, etc. This is where it all began. I did this for 2 years and it was time for me to move on.

Since then I have done lots of things for Gasper's School of Dance and the FM Ballet Company. Including brochures, postcards, flyers, production programs, photography, newsletter and press releases. While doing this I really enjoyed the process, creating digital art and exploring my talents in this field.

Last fall I met Monty Moran. He approached me at the Sports Center (where I work out) and asked if he could work out with me. I said sure. I find out he is a personal trainer. I was interested, because I needed a trainer to take me to the next level. He said he was getting a flyer ready. I invited him and his daughter to come to FM Ballet's Spooky Ballets and he agreed. It was at the Spooky Ballet when I asked him again where his flyer was. He said something along the lines of - I'm having trouble getting it together. I chimed in (thinking WHY am I about to say this!!) and said "I can help you out!" I told him I do everything for the dance studio and ballet company. He said sure.

Our first meeting was November 8th (or something like that). And since then I've helped him grow his personal training business, start new programs, get print material out (flyers, brochures, etc), posted to online calendars, and much more. All on a limited budget.

My focus with marketing is to get the most out of it that you can without spending thousands of dollars. There are many inexpensive ways to market yourself. And the key is go out and MARKET yourself to others.

Anyway - My company name is JabberBox Marketing. Here is my logo I designed. I will have price sheets soon with a list of what I offer.

People

On Tuesday Helen Cermak passed away after battle cancer. She was an incredible woman with an amazing heart. Helen was a college professor at Concordia College (my college) in the Theatre / Communications dept. I didn't get to really work with Helen until I think about my Junior year. I finally had a class with her and I was working on theatre scholarship (I was the chair) with her. She became a warming figure in my life, a great mentor, friend, and someone I knew I could always talk to.

She was excited to see the things I did for my Apparel & Design classes and she would always guide me through "random" situations in life. That I now live by. I will greatly miss her presense. But am fortunate enough to know her family. Her daughter A.J. walks in her footsteps. A great person with lots of drive, ambition, friendliness, quirky, and easy to love. Her husband Jim (also a mentor, friend, advisor of mine from Concordia) has the biggest heart of anyone I know. He is a big teddy bear and has always been there for me. And though I don't know Jamie very well, he has always been kind. Helen definitely lives through her family and they will carry her with them till they part with this world.

This year has not been easy in terms of people in my life passing away. But it reminds me how short of a time we have here. And to cherish those around me and the time we spend together. Death is never easy for those of us that are still here. We grieve, cry, miss, heartbroken, and wish we could have spent one more day with that person or had one more conversation or weren't too busy to make time for someone.

MAKE TIME FOR EVERYONE! You don't want regret to live with you. You don't want to miss an opportunity because you were TOO busy.

I visit other blogs and one that people have directed to me before (and I decided to check out today) is Confessions of a Pioneer Woman and a post from yesterday really hit home (and there is a great give-away, but honestly that is besides the point to me). And it made me continue on to her friend "Fatty's" Blog. Fatty's wife is battling breast cancer. His blog is: Fat Cyclist. Honestly, if I think my life is EVER bad - I just need to read his latest post to get a reality check.

When I was in college, my grandma (Omi) passed away from cancer. Her final cancer was brain cancer. It is never easy to see someone you love dearly go through the pain, the suffering, the treatments, and everything else that comes along with cancer.

Today, HUG the people you love, TELL them you love them, and CHERISH each moment.

I will be hugging many people today. As Helen's visitation is this evening and funeral is tomorrow - or Celebration Service as I like to call them.

Running...

So... I have decided to run a 5K in October (October 3rd). I'm really wondering WHY I decided I wanted to do this. HONESTLY! Running is torture! I know it is only a 5K - but as a non-runner. That is a lot of running!

I started training this weekend for it. I ran 1/2 of a 5K on Saturday morning (long story on why I only did half - but I think it's good I train at half - to understand the mechanics of running long distances). And the full 5K on Sunday morning. I completed the full thing in 37 minutes and something seconds. Which isn't bad for my first time I guess.

My sister-in-law posted on her Facebook not too long ago about running the TC Marathon. I thought "Oh, I should do that too!" She was only running the 5K and I thought - that's a perfect start - I don't want to run more then that.

Then my dad commented that he would run the full marathon in 2010. Um... a little ambitious for me. I thought long and hard about that one and nope - there is no way! LOL I told him this too. He thought about it too and it may take longer then a year to get ready for that. So, he may run the 5k this fall too and my brother may now as well.

My mom & Lucas can cheer us on. Well Lucas won't really know what is going on. LOL.

Monty (my trainer) will also be running it. He isn't a long distance runner either, so this is becoming a challenge for both of us. However, we have 3 months and both of us are determined!

My Goal
1. Run the entire thing (no walking)
2. Finish in under 30 min (ultimate goal 25 min)

Mini-Album

I finally got to scrapbook last night!! It was nice! All my stuff is still packed away. But I had some things from the retreat setting out (that I bought). And a project that I had brought with to work on at the retreat (which I never got to). So I worked on it last night and finished it!

I made a mini album (4x6) for my friend who passed away in May - Matthew T. - mom. It is titled "a Son's Life through his mother's eyes" (I will post album pics as soon as I find my camera battery).

But here are the supplies I used for it:
It was a simple album to create. I first cut the cover & back cover pieces (since they are larger then 4" x 6". Then I cut the rest of the paper at 4x6. Placed them in the album (17 total) and went through and decorated each for journaling purposes.

Here is the paper I used:
Pebbles: Theme Set - So Tweet
The awesome thing about Pebbles papers is that the border at the bottom (with the paper info) has a pattern board on one side! No need for it to go to waste then!

And look at these adorable Fancy Pants Stamps!
Delight (love the versatility of these stamps!)

On a Whimsy: Super cute doodle images!!

I will post pictures of the album soon!

Photography

I go in spurts of things I fall in love with doing. One month it may be knitting, the next scrapbooking, the next photography and so on. I always find things I'm inspired by and I know recently I have slacked on my photography. I did get the opportunity to be the "official photographer" for the MemoryWorks retreat and that was lots of fun.

I stumbled across Photographers Limited Edition today! It is very artsy. I love artistic photos and really try to study and understand the composition of them. I love to just take pictures - but I would LOVE to become a photographer with an eye.

My friend Charles has an eye for things. His work really inspires me. He has taken a lot of awesome shots from downtown Fargo. He makes Fargo look cool!

My friend Ben Kusler is a photographer out in Los Angeles and I love his work! I've seen many of his headshots and he really captures a persons personality and beauty. So if you are in LA and looking for a photographer - hit him up, seriously!

Finally, my friends from High School - Josh & Laura have a photography company here in Fargo/Moorhead. I love their quirky take on photos and adore their engagement photos. Their company is Frozen Music Studios.

I love my little practice niche of photography. I love capturing dance. Maybe because dance is an escape for me. And capturing talented dancers is something I really enjoy. I'm so lucky to have the opportunity to photograph dancers both on and off stage. With the FM Ballet and Gasper's School of Dance I have had lots of chances to catch dance in action.

So right now I guess what I'm saying is I'm inspired by photography and really want to get out there and take some shots. Which reminds me - I need to set up a session with Molly!

The Move

Well - I'm exhausted (still). This past weekend I moved to a new apartment. I no longer live in Downtown Fargo. ::tear:: I now am a South Fargo residence. This weekend was crazy. We moved ALL of our stuff (furniture and the rest of the 'little' stuff), primed the living room, CLEANED the entire apt and started to sort of organize the new place. Mikael bought champagne to TOAST to our new home.

I will post pictures soon! Right now the place is a DISASTER! Boxes everywhere, stuff EVERYWHERE. It's crazy! I can't even find clothes to wear.

Stumbled across...

I stumbled across this site today while clicking on links. I was blog hopping. I found this company - Lily Bee

Here is one of their papers (part of the French Couture Line)

OH AND - I just saw that Brenda Hurd is on their design team. How awesome! Brenda taught the Pink Paislee class at the MemoryWorks Retreat! She designed the cutest mini album!! LOVED IT!

More Retreat Info!!

Alright - yesterday I did a recap on the classes! Today I will talk about the rest of the retreat!

Not only were the classes amazing and we got LOTS of stuff for each class project. Which is great to be able to create a full project without skimping out on embellishments!

This year the MemoryWorks store was in a larger room and set up Warehouse style sales. Everything was super cheap!!! I did some shopping. I bought stamps (and lots of stamps), the NEW Fancy Pants Kraft Kuts paper set (boy), and some Fancy Pants papers with matching chipboard. I didn't go all out like lots of people did. The store had so many awesome things in it. Including Fancy Pants frames, Memory Dock totes, stamps, paper sets, and much more. For a great price! I got the opportunity to work the store a few times and help out. It's so fun to see the excitement of a purchase!

Jason & Kolette Hall were the key note speakers of the event.
Photobucket
They spoke about life, belief, reality, and much more. These two are very inspirational people and have been through much more then most people. They have strength, laughter, love, and a drive to live life.

The crops were a blast as always. The chocolate one was oh so yummy. This year I completed 1/2 a 6" x 12" layout. I know - not much - but better then last year. I enjoyed spending time with Mary & James, the Home office staff and retreat attendees.

Once again, every time we walked into a room - you got something at the door. I came home with a suitcase full of things.

We also received these awesome bags at registration filled with goodies!!!

I got little sleep (about 4 hours a night), but I found time to run for 15 minutes 2 of the days. That helped my energy level. Other wise it was go go go!!!

I will post a slide show of pictures soon! Here are a few favorites:

MemoryWorks Retreat 2009

I had a blast at this years MemoryWorks retreat! What an amazing time!!! Once again, we got TONS of stuff to bring home. I heard that one person even had to go buy another suitcase. Many people had to ship their stuff home. I packed little clothes so I had room for stuff I got. My suitcase weighed 47 lbs! Yikes. I had 3 lbs to spare.

About the classes.

Creative Studios
: Creative studios was a 4 hour even where everyone worked at their own pace and created a whole bunch of 6 x 6 layouts and a board book cover. The layouts were designed by home office and taught by the TeamWorks team that attended the event as staff. Also, Samantha Walker with Creative Imagination taught one, Tami Comstock taught one and Bo Bunny gals taught one.

Samantha Walker: Taught a great class! In this class we created a card, tag, and a layout - all christmas themed. We worked with foil and foiling on all items. What a fun technique and NOT messy at all!!!

BasicGrey: Layle taught this class for BasicGrey and it was a delight. We created a fun summer album using the Lime Rickey line. Awesome bright papers and Layle is a GREAT teacher!!

Rusty Pickle: Nannette taught a funky class using a sweet mini album!! The papers were bright and funky and the album was so cool with many flaps, tags and more!

The afternoon was full of the boys. Jodi, Madison & KC.

My Minds Eye: KC was the teacher this year for MME! It was fun to chat with him before hand and get a sneak peek at what is to come from MME - he said we are only the 2nd group to see their upcoming paper lines (he brought prototypes!) I'm so excited for both Halloween & Christmas! It's super awesome.

The class project was a 2 page layout using the MME Breaking Free line.

Fancy Pants: Madison & the founder of Fancy Pants Jodi taught this class. We created a layout in a frame! The frame has acrylic (not glass) and is great for displaying beautiful layouts you create. Plus photos and more! Very creative and exciting project to put together! The layout was fairly simple - but definitely would make an impact to add to any wall in your house.

We R Memory Keepers: Jody with Scrapbook Trends (used to be with My Minds Eye) taught this class!! It was so cool. Using page protectors (with various sized pockets) we created some fun mini layouts in these protectors (in the empty spaces you can add 4 x 6 photos). We created 4 different kinds using ALL four of their current lines right now.

Prism/Sassafras: We created a cute layout using AWESOMe prism cardstock & Sassafras Bungle Jungle line. So cute! Jamie from Prism taught the class. It was so good to see her again.

Cosmo Cricket: Tami Comstock taught this class using the Cosmo Cricket Ever After paper line and embellishments. This line is not only for "wedding themed" albums, but you can use it on many more layouts and projects including father's day and much more!

Pink Paislee: I was looking forward to this class more then any of the others. I ADORE Pink Paislee! Brenda Hurd designed the project for this class & taught it. What a beautiful project she created! She used the Captivating theme set!

More updates to come - this one took awhile to put together :)

Matthew Thibedeau

Matt Thibedeau was a dear friend of mine. He was kind, caring, funny, enjoyable and incredibly talented.

Matt had Cystic Fibrosis and last week the disease finally over powered him. Matt passed away on Wednesday morning. He lived beyond his life expectancy but that still doesn't make it easy for his friends and family here.

Matt T. and my Matt grew up together. Matt has always said Thibedeau was one of his best friends. You could tell when they were together the friendship they had was strong - no matter if they hadn't seen each other in years or weeks or days.

He will always live in our hearts and memories. He will be greatly missed. He definitely was a person that touched everyone's lives he crossed. I feel very fortunate to have known such a sensational person.

The picture above is Matt with Doobie. They were attached at the "hip" to one another. She was definitely very protective of him and he just thought the world of her. This was their Christmas picture 2008.

MemoryWorks Retreat - SNEAK PEEKS

I am sure that most who read my blog has heard me talk about the MemoryWorks retreat at one time or another.

Well, last year they held their first EVER retreat and it was a huge hit. It was one of the most amazing scrapbooking experiences I've EVER had - ok it WAS the MOST AMAZING!!! This year they are doing it ALL over again, and it looks even bigger and better.

I came home with so much stuff last year!! I pretty much had 2 suitcases packed with scrapbooking supplies! A-MAZING. I was worried that I would have to pay extra because it would be over 50 lb. But I weighed in at 49.something lbs. HAHA.

This retreat is open to anyone and everyone. Whether you are a consultant or not for MemoryWorks. Also, there is no pressure to sign-up as a consultant. This is a retreat for hobbyists and you will learn lots of techniques, create wonderful projects and meet amazing people.

The cost of this retreat is A LOT lower then other similar Major scrapbooking retreats. Plus, you get current papers that are on the market now!

Here are some sneak peeks MemoryWorks has shared of what is to come at the retreat!

Pink Paislee is one of my FAVORITE brands. I discovered them when they launched their line and website last year. They are one of the manufacturers being represented at the retreat. Here is there sneak peek:

Today, MemoryWorks released the Rusty Pickle Sneak Peek. Check this out! Love the bright colors!

Also, if you see at the bottom of the sneak peek you can get $20 off the Retreat price if you sign up by May 26, 2009. So take advantage of that!

Check out the MemoryWorks Retreat website for more information and details on the retreat!

Hope to see you there.

Saturday

It's Saturday, which means - the weekend is almost over. HAHA. Actually it means I do a lot of running around and feel like I get nothing done. When in actuality I get quite a bit done. I have lots on the agenda this weekend. Including putting together a program by the end of Sunday. Must get started on this. :)

Here are some projects I created with the MemoryWorks Express kit (April 2009) to give you a little inspiration this weekend.

It is a book and I'm using it for Inspiration type projects. Like pictures that inspire me, papers that inspire me. Items that inspire me. :)

A half card. I love taking the pre cut cards in the MemoryWorks Express Kits - folding them like a normal card and cutting it in half! It's a great way to make more cards and mini- cards! They also fit nicely in envelopes since they are half the size.

Finally a 6 x 12 layout about me! I love playing around with different sized layouts.

I will share a "notebook" project that is very easy to create later this week. Hopefully I can get on the ball as well and get my knitting up. I will be selling some fingerless gloves. I will link you to my Etsy store when I finally get the stuff posted!! :)

Happy Saturday World!

Flooding...

Well I've been MIA in life. HAHA. The past 1 1/2 weeks I have been sporadic at work. With all the snow we got this winter - the Red River was BOUND to flood. Except I guess we didn't think it would be this bad. I think the community came together though and really stopped the river from making our town a BIG lake.

I pretty much didn't work for a week or only worked half days. I was helping sandbag and building dikes. Then there was a blizzard. I think Mother Nature hates North Dakota. I'm just hoping for spring soon!!!

Everything is fine now - but they do believe it will crest again. The first crest was a record at 40.83 or something like that.

Life has finally got back to "normal". Whatever that may be. I will post pictures once I upload them to this computer. It was amazing how high the river got (and still is). We are not in the clear yet.

Weekends

Weekends go by so quickly. I am always so busy I feel like I get nothing done. This past weekend was crazy, but lots of fun. My friend Alexi was in town from California! It was so great to see him and hang out with him. Also, I was in the St. Patty's parade for Monty (my trainer). It was finally a pretty nice day - meaning I didn't have to wear a coat!!! Well if you live in warm states - you would probably be wearing a winter coat. The temp was in the mid-30s! Finally and today the temps will be in the high 40s (crazy I think this is warm).

I hope to get some scrapbooking done this week though. I have a fun make & take I made last week. I will be showing it on the MemoryWorks message board next week. So I will share it when I launch it there. :) It's a little notepad.

Other then that my life is uneventful. :) Maybe that is okay though.

Little Lucas

The thrill of being an Aunt is unexplainable. It is one of the most exciting things in my life that I've experienced. Little Lucas is 1 week old today. Happy 1 week old birthday little guy. I was so excited to visit him last weekend. Even though he was a few days old - I enjoyed holding him, giving him kisses, and just loving him. While he slept (aw the life). I look forward to seeing Lucas grow up. But hope he stays a baby for awhile. I love how little he is.

Here are a few more pictures from last weekend. I'm so excited to see him again, I know he will have grown a little by the next time I see him, probably be on more of a schedule and be awake longer then 5 min :)

My nephew Lucas Chad is ADORABLE!!!! He is so little. Seriously a little peanut. He weights 7 lbs 1 ounce and 20" long. He didn't cry much yesterday and slept pretty much the entire time. When he did cry (diaper changing time) he has the cutest little baby cry. Aw he is so adorable!!! I'm so excited to be an aunt and see this little guy grow up!

I am an AUNT

I think this is the most exciting day of my life. I am an AUNT!! My nephew was born this afternoon. I don't have many details at this time - my brother did not tell my mom much. So I am waiting for the phone call with more information.

I will be going to visit this weekend and I finally get to meet my little nephew whom I already love with all my heart.

Ok here come the tears - it's finally all settling in.
